Colonial Casuariforms

This one was a commission for a friend ("An extremely conservative emu village"). It was fun to try to think of visual signifiers of conservatism that could I could apply to emus and that wouldn't read as too "of the moment". I settled on Puritans.

After some googling, I chose this image from a 1953 article in Landscape: Magazine of Human Geography as my inspiration:
The illustration isn't meant to be of a Puritan village, but it looked ripe to be filled with stern, morally inflexible birds.

In other news, I finally opened a storefront at Society6! Right now I have some prints available, and some other products and designs in the works. And if you're interested in original artwork, there's a Store link at the top of this page.
